Bob Card

Robert Earl “Bob” Card, 85, died October  9, 2017 at NMMC-Pontotoc Extended Care Unit after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Oktibbeha County June 4, 1932 to Murray and Mable Young Card, he grew up there. A patriotic American, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force with service during the Korean Conflict, primarily stationed in Alaska. He attended East Mississippi Junior College where he studied Medical Technology. He and his wife, Allye, moved to Tupelo in l960. He was a route man and foreman for Cockrell Banana Company. He later worked over 15 years as a salesman for Kraft Foods, was an agent with Lamar Life Insurance Company and spent his last 10 years working as a bus driver for Tupelo Public Schools. He and his family were longtime active members of Parkway Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, treasurer over 25 years and active in RA’s. He loved the outdoors and sports and was an avid Mississippi State Bulldog football fan. He was a master golfer, enjoyed his afternoon coffee sessions with fellow retired veterans at Hardee’s and was a doting grandfather to his six grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

A service celebrating his life is today at Parkway Baptist Church with Bro. Robin Nichols and Bro. Matt Scopel officiating.  Burial will be in Bruce Cemetery at 3 p.m. with Holland Funeral Directors in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Allye Edwards Card, Tupelo, whom he married September 10, 1953; children, Robert “Bob” (Beverly) Card, Jr., Cleveland; Richard (Jill) Card, Wheaton, Il.; Ginger Card (David) Howe, Tupelo; grandchildren Christopher, Ethan James and Griffin Card, Gregory, Emily and Leslie Howe; great grandchildren Emma Catherine and Christopher, Jr.; sisters, Annie Mae Card, Starkville, and Jean Thornton, Mathiston; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charlie and Billy Card.

Pallbearers are Jeff Seals, David Moore, Chuck Bunn, Cobran Edwards, Bobby Wages and David Howe. Honorary pallbearers are Rev. Robert Shirley, Rev. Len Sullivan, Rudolph Franks, Jim Wright, Paul Robertson, John West, Charles Owens and Billy Lowery.
