Jean Myers Norman, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018 after a brave battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. Born April 6, 1937, in Derma, she was the daughter of Terrell Myers, Sr. and Rena Putnum Myers. She was a graduate of Calhoun City High School and a member of Calhoun City First Baptist Church. While traveling back and forth to Memphis over the years, she also attended Hope Church in Cordova, TN. Through the years, she was very active in church and civic affairs. She and Thomas were married in July of 1955, and have spent 62 wonderful years together. After graduating from high school, she attended The University of Mississippi for two years studying Banking and Finance with her husband, then moving to Memphis for him to finish his last four years at the University of Tennessee Dental School. She worked beside him for 50 years before they both retired at the ages of 73 and 75. Mimi was very much loved by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved antiquing and watching basketball and football, especially if Ole Miss or the Vols were playing. She enjoyed traveling in the mountains as well as her beach time. Her memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be Monday, May 21 at 1 pm at Pryor Funeral Home. There will be a visitation Monday from noon until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Anthony Kay and Bro. Mike Smith will be officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City.
Serving as pallbearers will be Will Luckey, Russell Matthews, Terry Myers, Michael Denley, Charlie Brown and Adam Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Caviness, Johnny Dean, Bobby Steele, Woody Jones, Dr. Jimmy Gage Dobbs, Dr. Michael Abraham, Dr. Guy Farmer, Jr., Lynn Barry Hodges and Henry Lackey.
She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Thomas Norman, Germantown; daughter, Susan Coletta, Germantown; brother, Chodie Myers, Calhoun City; grandchildren, Stacia (Will) Luckey, Humbolt, TN, and Kaley (Russell) Matthews, Cordova, TN; great-grandchildren, Ava Luckey and Logan LeClair, a nephew and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Terrell and Rena Myers; son, Steven Norman; daughter, Kristi Norman; sister-in-law, Judy Myers, and her in-laws, Ava and Orene Norman.
Memorial donations may be sent to Calhoun City First Baptist Church, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
