James Travis “Curly” England, 85, of Grenada, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2018 at the University of MS Medical Center-Grenada. He was born September 8, 1933 in Webster County to Mack and Rena Mae Spraberry England. He retired as an Inside Sales Rep with Heatcraft where he worked for over 45 years. He was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada where he served in the sanctuary choir and also on numerous committees including long-range planning, which was in place when Emmanuel moved to its current campus. He was a US Army Veteran, Mason and Shriner. He was an avid outdoorsman thoroughly enjoying hunting, fishing, golf and gardening.
Funeral services were Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Nunnelee, Rev. Eugene Heimbach and Dr. Archie Waits England officiating. Interment was in Bradford Chapel Cemetery in Calhoun County.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Taylor England, Grenada; sons, Ryan (Betsy) England and Jerry (Ann) Barton, all of Southaven; twin brother, Archie (Geneva) England, Grenada; sisters, Maxine Hayes, Jackson, TN and Eloise Riley, Spring Hill, and grandchildren, Amos England, Maddie Barton, Andy Barton, Griffin England, Robbye England, Taylor England and Thomas England, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Kerry England; and a brother, Rufus England.
Pallbearers were Sammy Brasher, Randy Harrell, Terry Hutchins, Roddy Wilbourn, Francis Williams and Spencer Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Derrick Harrelson, Richard LaMantia, Levy Ware, Ken Williamson and the men of the Fred Fortenberry Sunday School Class at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
