James “Mickey” Laughlin, 70, passed away at his home Friday, Jan. 4, 2019. Born June 21, 1948 in Greenville, he was the son of James Milton and Lena Mae Curtis McCluskey Laughlin. He was a graduate of Coldwater High School, and from there he attended Northwest Community College and graduated in 1970. That same year, he and Joyce were married, and together they were blessed with two children, Denise and Michael.
He was a member of Montevista Baptist Church, and was retired from Caviness Woodworking in Calhoun City, and spent most of his time doing what he loved, working in his yard. His family says he could jump on his mower and just ride all day. A very loving and gentle man, he will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him, but his memory will live on forever in their hearts.
A funeral service celebrating his life was Sunday at Pryor Funeral Home with Bro. Jason Brock officiating. Interment was at Montevista Cemetery in Webster County.
His grandchildren served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Cooper, Sammie Wright, Kenneth Smith, Ralph Williams, Troy James, Toxie Russell and Scottie Jones.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Joyce Cooper Laughlin, Eupora; daughter, Denise Laughlin (Michael) Sharpe, Eupora; son, James Michael (Ronna) Laughlin, Jr., Prairieville, LA; brother, Billy (Diana) Laughlin, Clearwater, FL; sisters, Sandra (Richard) Kopf, Senatobia; Debbie Vaughn, Stewart, and Brenda (Sammy) Malone, Kilmichael; grandchildren, Michael, Brandon, Noah and Nathaniel Laughlin, Brady and Kayden Sharpe. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda Creel; and uncle, Bill Laughlin.
