Carl Nolan Baker, 81, of Banner passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born August 11, 1937 in Banner to Sam and Jimmie Bagwell Baker.
After graduating Bruce High with the class of 1957, he went to work in Memphis for Dixie Wax Paper Company. Eventually, he returned home and started working for Columbia Gulf Transmission Company before embarking on what would be a 28-year career with the Weyerhaeuser Company, retiring in 2003.
A former deacon of Banner Baptist Church, he remained an active member. His hobbies included hunting, where he took special enjoyment in listening to the dogs chasing deer. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed following sports on ESPN Sports Network. He will be remembered and missed by many family members and friends alike, all of whom cherish the memories he created and shared with them.
He leaves his loving wife of 61 years, Nell Vines Baker, Banner; sons, Danny Nolan (Shelby) Baker, Oxford; Randy Lyn (Kathy) Baker, Banner, Murry Allen (Loretta) Baker, Starkville, and Carlton Scott (Laura) Baker, Pittsboro; sisters, Dorethy Baker, Bruce; Ruby Thompson, Bruce, and Melba Busby, Oxford; grandchildren, Joshua Baker, Meagan (John Cole) Jennings, Christopher (Beverly) Baker, Rebekah (Dustin) Carr, Benjamin Baker, Amanda (Ben) Harris, Heath (Clarissa) Crenshaw, Caleb (Hannah) Baker, Ferrell Baker and Mary Katelyn Baker; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 17 from 5-8 pm at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. A funeral service honoring his life will be Friday at 11 am in the chapel of the funeral home. Dr. Bobby Douglas, Bro. Jackie Douglas, and Bro. Darrell Logan will serve as officiants of funeral services.
Following the funeral service Friday, he will be laid to rest in Banner Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Benjamin Baker, Caleb Baker, Christopher Baker, Ferrell Baker, Dustin Carr and Heath Crenshaw, Ben Harris.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Jean Dailey.
