Mike Dunagin, 76, passed away peacefully at Baptist Nursing Home in Calhoun City on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020. Born December 9, 1943, in Houston, he was the son of Charles Ado Dunagin and the late Lahoma Brown Cooner.
In 1966, he married the former Katherine Elizabeth York, and they spent 54 years together. He graduated from Calhoun City High School, andgot his degree from Delta State University. He was a member of Calhoun City First Baptist Church, and was retired after many years as owner of York’s Greenhouse in Derma. He also served his community as Fire Chief for Calhoun City Fire Department over 40 years. He was also an EMA responder and County Fire Coordinator many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and loved to be outdoors, either fishing or duck hunting. He was loved and highly respected by his family, friends and community. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be Thursday, Feb. 13 at 1 pm at Calhoun City First Baptist Church. There will be visitation Thursday from 11 am until service time at the church. Bro. Jim Vance will be officiating, and interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City. Pallbearers will be Jarrod Davis, Jess Moore, Shane Childs, Scott Boone, Mike Beasley, Don Davidson, James Jennings, and Robert Ira Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Dunagin, Charlie Dunagin, Robert Allen Langston, Dale Hays, and members of Calhoun City Fire Department.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Beth York Dunagin, Calhoun City; daughter, Piper (Steve) Haynam, Warner Robins, GA; son, Blake (Robin) Dunagin, Wesley Chapel, FL, and grandchildren, Ana Riley and Spencer Haynam and Kristoffer Trest.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ado Dunagin; mother, Lahoma Brown Cooner, and step-father, G.C. Conner.
