Gordie L. Haire, 73, Pittsboro, died Saturday, Mar. 7, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Calhoun in Calhoun City.
Born Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1946 in Sarepta, he was the son of Gordie and Willie Clark Harie.
He was a retired loan officer for USDA Rural Development. He was an officer for the Lions Club in 1964, served as a Scout Master and District Commissioner for The Boy Scouts of America. In his younger years, he was a national 4-H Club Champion. He enjoyed raising Dachshund puppies, woodworking and gardening. One of the most important roles in his life was his dedication to Rocky Mount Church were he served on the Church Council and taught Sunday School.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda Haire; son, Jeffery L. Haire (special friend Mitzi, Belden); step-sons, John (Donna) Buchanan, Tupelo, and Zackery Buchanan, Bruce; sister, Pam (Bill) McCammon, Pittsboro, and grand children, Caleb, Cohen and Cylee Haire, Andy Buchanan and Seth Buchanan.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce.
His funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Taylor and Bro. Sam Yarbrough officiating. Interment will be in Rocky Mount Cemetery in Pittsboro.
Zackery Buchanan, Gary Collums, Michael Cook, Michael Haire, Sid Haire, Jerry McCammon, Chris McCormick, Craig McCormick, Mitch McGreger and J.T. Turner will serve as pallbearers, and members of Rocky Mount Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
