Joel Edward “Joe” Gregg, 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family March 8, 2020.

Born March 12, 1927, in Slate Springs, he was the son of  Joel Lee Gregg and Mary Ida Edwards Gregg.  He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII.  He was retired after farming and logging most of his life, and also owned and operated Joe’s Café in Slate Springs years ago.  He loved to garden, and was well known for his “famous” tomatoes.  His incredible smile will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but his memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of all who knew him.

Matthew White will be officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Harris, Danny Crutchfield, and Tom Wooten.

He leaves his wife, Judy Barker Gregg; daughters, Judy (Jimmy) Carver, Forest; Suzye (Charles) Lovorn, Slate Springs, Janet Gregg Fortenberry, Slate Springs,; June Johns, Charleston, SC; son-in-law, John Hyde, Big Creek; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and five  great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernard, Russell and James Gregg, and sister, Joanne Hyde.
