Peggy Whitten

Peggy Wood Whitten, 86, passed away October 20, 2020 at her home in Derma. Born March 11, 1934, in Calhoun County, she was the daughter of Scott and Annie Neal Wood. She was a graduate of Calhoun City High School, and member of Way of The Cross Church of the Nazarene in Calhoun City. She married Troy Whitten in 1953, and they spent 57 years together until his passing in 2010. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking and baking for her friends and family. She  enjoyed cross stitching, and crossword puzzles but most of all she had a passion for studying God’s word, The Bible. Her faith, family and friends meant the most to her. She was always engaged in her community and loved her church family. She was well-known for her caring heart and giving soul. Her memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of her family and friends. 

Her funeral service was Saturday at Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City with Bro. Jimmy Vance and Bro. John Meeks officiating. Interment was at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City. Serving as pallbearers were Dustin Belk, Jai McVay, Jaden McVay, Troy Whitten, Michael Whitten Jr, Jerry Vance and Adam Gaskin. 

She leaves her son, Bro. Michael (Laura) Whitten, Sr., Calhoun City; daughter, Dr. Kimberly Whitten, Joppa, MD; godson, Keith Bodet, TN; special friend, Amanda McVay; grandchildren, Michael (Darla) Whitten Jr., Tammy Whitten, Troy (Melissa) Whitten, Tristyn Rutherford;  great-grandchildren, Jay, Alex, Deanna, Dustin, Jordan, Dakota, Hanna, Jaiden, and six great-great- grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Troy Whitten; sisters, Rogenia Clanton, Dolores Vance, Robbie Pepper, and brother Belon Wood.
