John Allen Hughes, 79, of Big Creek, died April 22, 2014 at Calhoun Health Services in Calhoun City. He was born September 6, 1934 in Calhoun City, the son of John Hughes and Beatrice Blackwelder Hughes. He was a machinist for Harrelson Manufacturing for 50 years, and he was a member of the Baileyville Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Huguley Hughes, Big Creek; two daughters: Susie Hughes Coleman, Big Creek, and Jennifer Hughes (Bryan) Marshall, Water Valley; four grandchildren, Scott Coleman, Sara Clare Ayers, Jackson Allen Marshall, Lydia Jane Marshall, and one great grandchild, Dylan Scott Coleman. He was preceded in death by one daughter, four brothers and five sisters. His funeral service is today, Thursday, at 2 p.m at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with Dr. Daniel Hathorne and Bro. Chris Conlee officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Big Creek.
