Galon Winston King died peacefully early in the morning May 5, 2014 at his home. He was born November 3, 1927 in Lafayette County, and served his country in the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant. He worked at Big Yank and Holly Carburetor in Water Valley as well as raising cattle for many years. He was beloved by his family and friends and well known for his kind and helpful response as a Good Samaritan to others. He was a Christian of Baptist belief. Visitation with the family will be at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, from 5-7 Tuesday, May 6. The service to celebrate his life will be held at Seven Oaks Wednesday May 7 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Bobby Caples and the Reverend Dr. A. Gene Cobb, Jr., presiding. Burial will be at Pine Flat Cemetery following the service.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sarah Newman King; one son, Ronald and his wife Debbie, Water Valley; one daughter, Brenda King Cobb and husband Gene, Sanford, NC; two brothers, Wayne and Joe King; one sister Montene; four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren; four step great-great-granchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, the late Abner and Effie Williams King; two brothers Johnny and William “Coot” King; and one step-grandchild.
