Debra Norwood, 56, of Water Valley, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was born July 9, 1957 in Texarkana, Tx., the daughter of Buford Hallum and Faye Melton Hallum of Texarkana. She was the wife of Steve Norwood of Banner. She was a graduate of Texarkana College and a public school teacher for 30 years as a dyslexia counselor. She received the teacher of the year award in her school district in 1998 Liberty-Eylu High School. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church Texarkana, where she was pianist, also attending Drivers Flat Baptist Church Banner. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Border Chapter 211, Texarkana, and Chapter 5, Water Valley.
Surviving are step-sons, Wayne Norwood, Oxford, and Charlie Norwood, Banner; step-daughter, Jeanie Norwood, Banner; brother, Steve Hallum, Texarkana; seven grandchildren and two special nieces.
Her funeral service was Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joe Owens officiating and Bro. Stacy Watkins assisting. Interment was in Banner Cemetery.
