James Melton

James “Jamie” Edward Melton, 80, of Greenville, died Monday, June 15, 2015 at Delta Regional Medical Center of Greenville. His  graveside service was June 18 at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Big Creek preceding his burial there. He was born March 26, 1935 in Big Creek, the son of the late Hubert Edward and Ludie May Melton. He lived in Greenville  over 54 years. He was a National Guard Veteran. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge #148 over 25 years. While in Elks Lodge and VFW he devoted much of his time to many community activities with the clubs. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and world-renowned fish cooker. In his spare time, he thoroughly enjoyed working in his garden as well as putting his mechanic skills to work. He was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather that will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Kate Melton, Greenville; one son, Terry (Ellen) Melton, Greenville; one brother, Charles (Mildred) Melton, Fayetteville, NC; two grandchildren, Emily Melton and Teri Beth Melton, Greenville.He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Otis Lester and Hubert ‘Pete’ Allen; two sisters, Kathryn Marie Holloway and Ester May Blakeley.

Memorial donations may be made to the Elks Lodge #148 P.O. Box 404, Greenville, MS in Loving Memory of Jamie Melton.
