Bob Gene Shekell, 89, passed away August 24, 2017 at his home. He was born October 2, 1927 in Evansville, IN to Dudley and Grace Bottoms Shekell. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1990. He had previously worked and managed Master Steel Company in New Albany. He loved his family and enjoyed reading novels for his pastime. He served his country during the Korean War Conflict serving in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jane Grist Shekell, Pittsboro; daughter, Debbie Sue (Terry) Porter, Dumas; sons, Michael Gene Shekell, Denver, CO; Mark Anthony Shekell, Denver, CO; Bobby Gordon (Judy) Brown, Bruce; Mike (Teresa) Winter, Pittsboro; Mike (Donna Sue) Winter, Bruce; sister, Mary (Don) James, Evansville, IN; Jack Shekell, San Diego, CA; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Papmeir and three brothers; Billy, Jerry and Ben Shekell.
His graveside service will be Friday, Aug. 25 at Bruce Cemetery at 4 p.m. with Bro. Darrell Logan officiating.
