Charles Dwayne Young, 81, of Bruce peacefully departed from this world June 7, 2020, while tending to his treasured garden. Born January 3, 1939, in Calhoun County, he was a son to Hillard Enoch and Ellie Jane Campbell Young.
A decorated Navy veteran, he dedicated 20 years of his life to protecting his country’s freedom. During his time in the armed forces, hne served in many of our great nation’s notorious battles such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. His selfless and courageous personality can be evidenced by his impeccable service record and plethora of military honors. He was a master electrician by skill with a vast knowledge of all things current and circuit. He put his electrical skills to the test for the Federal Mogul Corporation as an electrician for 20 years before retiring to practice his hobbies full time. He had a passion for cultivating a vegetable garden every year. He spent hours grooming and looking after each row of plants to obtain a bountiful harvest. While this hardworking man loved growing things, he also found joy in fishing. An active member of the community, he was a charter member of Chickenbone Volunteer Fire Department which provided a sense of safety to the close-knit community. He actively worshiped and served as a deacon at Victory Baptist Church.
He leaves a loving family to carry his legacy and precious memory, cherished wife, Shirley Bowling Young, Bruce; sons: Ron (Donna) Young, Greeneville, Tn.; Mark (Melissa) Young, Bruce; brother, Gerald (Carolyn) Young, Hernando; sisters: Karen (Gail) Wilson, Pontotoc; Sandra (Jerry) Walls, Houston; sister-in-law; Shirley Young, Pontotoc; grandchildren; Bradley Wells and Autumn Young; great grandchild, Barron Young, and beloved dog, Prissy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Don Young.
He will lie in repose Wednesday, June 10 from 5-8 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce for friends and family to pay their respects. His funeral service is Thursday, June 11 at 1 p.m in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Kelly and Bro. Bobby Douglas officiating. Michael Brown, David Greene, Andy Walls, Homer Moore, Rocky Moore, Andrew Snellings, Keith Snellings and Michael Young will carry him to his final resting place in Memory Memorial Garden.
