Billy Doyle Alexander

Billy Doyle Alexander, 79, of Vardaman passed from this life February 25, 2021 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis after an extended illness. Born February 14, 1942 in Vardaman, he was a son to Doyle Richmond  and Bonnie Laudrey Crawford Alexander.

A Vardaman High School graduate, he spent his entire life in the sweet potato capital of the world. He spent much of his life growing sweet potatoes. When he wasn’t occupied with running a farm, he could be found fishing or using his woodworking skills. He loved his family and he loved his dogs just as much. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda McClain Alexander, Vardaman; son, Billy Gene (Liz) Alexander, Big Creek; daughters, Judy (Mike) Holder, Vardaman; Lisa (Doug) James, Vardaman; Lynn (Delwyn) Havens, Bolton; grandchildren: Jennnifer Doss, Jena Hood, Jeri-Laken Greer, Jayla Greer, Shaun James, Jacob James, Abbie Fortner, Hinton Havens, Phebe Havens, and Carly Havens; eight great grandchildren; brothers: James Larry (Betty) Alexander, Vardaman; Kenneth (Susie) Alexander, Vardaman; sister, Donna (Loyd) Montgomery, Naples, Fl. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Josh James.

His funeral service was February 28 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman with Bro. Jerry Hartley, Bro. Fred Hartley, and Bro. Joey Faulk officiating.

Derek Doss, Justin Greer, Kipper Greer, Hinton Havens, Shaun James, and Nathan Hood carried him to rest in Elzey Cemetery. Nona Taylor served as an honorary pallbearer.

Memorials may be given in Billy’s memory to St. Jude Children’s hospital and Friendship Baptist Church.

The staff of Parker Memorial Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
