Alma West

Alma Magness West, 83, of Slate Springs died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Slate Springs.  She was born February 15, 1932 in Dentontown, the daughter of  J.W. Magness and Lucille Denton Magness. She was a homemaker and member of Bethany Baptist Church. Her hobbies were gardening and flowers. She served her community and church in many ways, including her work with the Baptist Food Pantry. After caring for her husband until his death, she enjoyed extensive travel to Canada, the US Northwest and cruises with her many friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 23, from 10 a.m. until her funeral service at noon at  Bethany Baptist Church in Slate Springs.  Bro. Jon Doler and Bro. Glen Putman will be officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery in Slate Springs. Pryor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Tony Hardin, David Macon, Richard Easley, Stanley Criss, Andy Lovorn and Mady Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Shelton Williams, Thomas Earl Latham, and grandsons, Justin McPhail, Chancy Mooneyham, Tyler Gregg and Casey Mooneyham.

She is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Lynn) Gregg, Slate Springs; Janis (Tommy) Bridges, Hickory, KY; Tena West, Seattle, WA; two sons, Mike West, Slate Springs; Jason (Eleda) West, Seattle, WA; three sisters, Lucy Jackson, Southaven; Ruth McGougan, Hunstville, AL; Virginia McGougan, Huntsville, AL; two brothers, Kenneth Magness, Batesville; JW Magness, Jr., Senatobia; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Everette West, Jr., and one sister, Jane Magness Hardin.
