Vernon Lorance Drake, 78 of Horn Lake, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016 at his residence. Born September 7, 1937 in Bruce, he was the son of Vernon “Bill” and Ruby Russell Drake. His first wife, Mary Ellen Drake, preceded him in death, and a brother, Winfred Drake. He was retired from Memphis Hardwood Flooring and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His many hobbies were fishing, hunting and gardening. He attended Colonial Hills Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Syble Wilson Drake, Horn Lake; step-daughter, Mitzi (Danny) Atchison, Southaven; three step grandchildren; Kristen (Stephen) Wright, Lauren (Eric) Stone, and Katie Atchison (Hunter McDonald).
The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of is funeral service 1 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. Bro. Mark Manning will be officiating. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Garden in Calhoun City.
Pallbearers will be Danny Atchison, James Drake, Hunter McDonald, Mike Russell, Eric Stone, and Steve Wright.
