Trisha Sparrow

Trisha Ann Sparrow, 67, of Calhoun City, died Monday, Mar. 20, 2017, at her residence. Born January 10, 1950 in Clarksdale, she was the daughter of James Felix  and Catherine Wortham Nelson. She attended Mt. Comfort Baptist Church. She was a former teacher’s assistant, bank teller and secretary for a Construction Company.

Surviving are her life partner, Wayne Mcmahon, Calhoun City; sons, Robert E. (Sheena) Blount, Bruce, and James D. (Tammy) Blount, Bruce; daughter, Robin (Jeff) Robertson, Calhoun City; step-daughters, Misty (Bubba Dye) McMahan, Rhonda McMahan, and Sherry (Ricky) Wells; brothers, Larry Nelson, Pelham, AL and Shane Nelson,   Water Valley; grandchildren, Kage Robertson, Kaiston Dye, Hunter Jackson, Stevie Jackson, Lauren Murphree, Jonathon Baker, Steven Baker, Brigit Burt, Zachery Cowsert, and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Dean  and Sonny Cunningham, and sisters, Lois Howard and Shelby Willis.

Her funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Vance and Bro. Jamie McMahan officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Comfort Cemetery in Bruce.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Mar. 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce.

Charles Patterson

Charles Wayne Patterson, 68, of Union,  died Sunday, Mar. 19, 2017 at Hilltop Manor Nursing Home. His hobbies were going to church and attending all church activities and gospel singings. He loved his church family and his pastor, Bro. Sam Fulton. He also loved his hospice workers and the staff at Hilltop Manor Nursing Home.

His services were Tuesday, Mar. 21, 2017 held at Northside Pentecostal Church in Philadelphia with burial in Union City Cemetery. Bro. Sam Fulton and Bro. Robert Garcia officiated.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Margie Clark Patterson, Union; six step-children, David Clark, Philadelphia; Debbie Burchfield, Newton; Linda Jarriel, Union; Ricky Clark, Magee; Stacy Burnside, Philadelphia; Wayne (Jessica) Clark, Union; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Willa Kaye Duke, Vardaman, and Wanda Sue (Jerry) Nowell, Philadelphia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Patterson; mother, Lucille Cowsert Patterson; brother, Jamie Patterson; infant sister; both paternal and maternal grandparents and special nephew, Billy Wayne Duke.

Pallbearers were Dewayne Clark, Chris Clark, Jeremy Clark, Charles Boone, Saige Robinson, Randell Walton and Bro. Dwayne Yates. Honorary pallbearers were B.J. Duke, Jamie Duke and Jeremy Patterson.

Milling Funeral Home of Union was in charge of arrangements.

David Bailey, 89, of Bruce, died Saturday, Mar. 25, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North MS in Oxford. He was born  February 23, 1928 in the Loyd community in Calhoun County. He was a member of  Bruce United Methodist Church. He was a retired grocery manager for over 41 years and a monument dealer.

He was the son of Elisha Allen Bailey, Sr. and Mary Annie Smith Bailey. He was also preceded in death by brothers Edmond  and Rev. E.A. Bailey, and sisters, Mary Helen Crawford and Lela Belle McCluskey.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Lewis Bailey, Bruce; daughter: Vicki Bailey (L.C.) Austin, Randolph; son, Danny Lewis (Melanie) Bailey, Oakland; sister, Lanetia (Merlin) Richardson, Anguilla; brother, Homa (Ruth) Bailey, Tupelo, four grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home from noon until time of the service at the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Bro. Rex Wilburn will be officiating  with Kay Falkenberry and Bro. Lannis May  assisting. Burial  will be at Bruce Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Allen, Trent Butler, Caleb Goodwin, Tony Goodwin, Robbie Lynch, Eric Weeks, Cris Wilkinson and Jake Wilkinson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Methodist Men’s kitchen crew.

Harold King

Harold Wayne King passed away March 24, 2017 at the State Veterans Home in Oxford, at the age of 91. He was born February 20, 1926 in Paris, to the parents of  Effie Mae Williams and Abb King. He served during WWII in the U.S. Marines. After serving his country he came home to be a husband, parent, farmer, cattle rancher and a worker at Big Yank garment factory in Water Valley. He was also an active member of Yalobusha Primitive Baptist Church, American Legion and V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Erma Jean Lindsey King; four brothers, John, Gaylon, William and Joe Abb King, and sister, Montine Sitzlar.

Survivors are a daughter, Gloria (Paul) Wilbourn, Grenada; sons, Stephen (Wilma) King, Water Valley, and Gary (Wini) King, Oxford; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

His funeral service will be Monday, Mar. 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating in the service will be Elder Ed Easley and Elder James Hall. Pallbearers are Brett King, Craig King, Justin King, Matthew King, David Moulder and Stoney Wilbourn. Honorary pallbearers are Stanford Gandy, Charlie Huckaby, William Huckaby and Riley Melton.

Betty Sue McCain, 67, of Water Valley,  passed away surrounded by her family Friday, Mar. 24, 2017, at Oxford Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Born December 20, 1949 in Banner, she was the daughter of Cleatus Reid and Betty Sims Miller. She was a graduate of Bruce High School and was a nurse for Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She enjoyed playing on the computer, Facebook and most importantly she loved spending time with her family. She attended Driver’s Flat Baptist Church.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Michael Steven McCain; sons, Andy (Brandye) Gossett, Oxford, and Chris (Jennifer) Gossett, Oxford; brothers, Charlie Miller, Maben, and Bobby (Pat) Miller, Grenada; sisters, Grace (Leslie) Morgan, Banner; Elvis (Charles) Davis, Water Valley, and Alice Hodge, Oxford; grandchildren, Harley Anne, Macie, Lindley and A.J. Gossett.

Her funeral service was Sunday at 2 p.m.  at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marvin Sparks and Bro. Jerry Derryberry officiating. Interment was in Drivers Flat Cemetery in Banner. Pallbearers were Mark Davis, Robert Davis, Keith Inman, Andy Gossett, Freddie Martin, David Miller, and Scotty Miller.

Donny Byars

Donny Wayne Byars, 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Mar. 26, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at his home in Horn Lake. Born September 22, 1950, he was the son of Shed and Edna Pitts Byars.  He was a retired welder/pipe fitter at Standard Maintenance Company, and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

A funeral service honoring his life will be  Wednesday, Mar. 29 at 2 p.m. at Pryor Funeral Home.  There will be a visitation from noon until service time on Wednesday.  Officiating will be Craig Brown. Burial will follow at Pittsboro Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alex Byars, Joey Byars, Dennis Byars, William Vaughn, Phillip Vaughn, and Jessie Turner.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Liz Chisholm Byars, Horn Lake; sons, Joey (Tammy) Byars and Dennis (Lisa) Byars, both of  Bruce; Alex (Ashley Elmore) Byars, Starkville;  Will (Alexis) Vaughn, Macon, GA; Phil (Dina) Vaughn, Little Rock AR; sister, Debbie (Wade) Burt, and brothers, Raleigh (Christa) Byars, Stanley (Betty) Byars, Eastland Byars, Sr., and Ricky (Cheryl) Byars, and nine grandchildren, Kristi Byars Turner, Rachel Byars Tran, Abby Byars, Sebastian Byars, Bret Byars, Cassie Vaughn, Joshua Vaughn, Cyan Vaughn, and Aiden Vaughn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Linda Diane Crow Byars; sisters, Mildred Lee  Byars, Edna Joyce Byars, and Ann Byars West.

James (Moby) Armstrong

James Earl (Moby) Armstrong, 57, of Calhoun City, died March 31, 2017 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. He was born May 23, 1959, the son of Azzie Armstrong and Lou Allie Ewing. He was self-employed at Moby’s Auto in Calhoun City. He was a member of Churchhill Outreach, and was a pastor.

His funeral service will be Saturday, Apr. 8 at noon at Grace Fellowship Church with Bishop Tony Armstrong officiating. Visitation is Friday from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be in Cane Creek Cemetery in Vardaman. Belle Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Hatchett Armstrong; two sons, Robert Hatchett, Jeffrey Armstrong; daughter, Chrishundra Hatchett; four brothers, Robert and David Armstrong; Michael and Jerry Tate, and sisters, Bobbie and Della Armstrong, Effie Golliday, Elaine Willis, Jo Ann Tate and Kathy Franklin.

John Glaspie Jr.

John Henry Glaspie, Jr. was born January 1, 1944 to John Henry Glaspie, Sr. and Izora Steen-Glaspie in Bruce. He was the third of eleven children. He attended North Calhoun High School where he was a 1964 graduate. He met his wife, Flora Dell Yates-Glaspie during his youth, in Bruce, and was a member of Jackson Chapel M. B. Church. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and served as an E6/Staff Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1972. While in service, he was united in matrimony to Flora on September 5, 1969.

With this union, four children were born: Ruth (Bernard) Blissett, Southaven; Donald (Trina) Glaspie, Manhattan, KS; Issia Glaspie (Clay Souter) Bruce, and Nicole (BJ) Chandler, Cleveland. He was also the father of Patricia (Pierre) Herman, Marysville, OH, and Guronome Haywood, who preceded him in death, of Chicago. He also shared in the upbringing of a very special niece, Angela Yates-Hobson ,whom he also loved as his own.

He was a devoted worker who started his career, after his military service, at Kellwood in Calhoun City. He furthered his career path by working as an engineer for Columbia Gulf Transmission in Banner. To this company, he serviced 22 years of dedicated employment. Due to his declining health, he retired from there in the fall of 1994.

In 1994, he joined Zion Spring M.B. Church and rededicated his life to Christ as a faithful servant with desires to help all. He gave his time and devotion to Zion Spring consistently, until his time of death. He was a deacon, Sunday School and Bible Study teacher, overseer of the cemetery, and took on any other role that he could aid in.

On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, God saw fit to give him rest. He departed his life at home with his loving wife. He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, four children, 12 grandchildren, and a great-grand child. His surviving siblings are David W. Glaspie, Bruce; Jason Glaspie, Jackson; Robert (Dora) Glaspie; Earlest (Juanita) Glaspie; Beauty V. (Tommy) Bolden; Eula Warner; Linda (Jimmy) Terrell; Brenda Glaspie, all of Jackson; special aunt, Veola Zeanders, Pass Christian, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Willie Z. Swindell, and brother, Everett Glaspie.

His funeral service was March 26 at Jackson Chapel MB Church in Bruce with Bro. Tommie Lee Daniel officiating. Burial was in Zion Springs Cemetery. Clark-Williams Funeral Home of Grenada was in charge of arrangements.

April Denise Galloway, 36, of Vardaman,  died Monday, April 3, 2017, at Piedmont Hospital in Newman, Ga. Born October 24, 1980 in Grenada, she was the daughter of  William Sherman Haire and Edna Martin Haire. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and a member of Baileyville Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Benjamin Wesley Galloway, Vardaman; son, Sean Scott Galloway, Vardaman; brother, William Sherman Haire, Vicksburg; sisters, Mary Pettit, Big Creek; Mannie Sanders, Bruce; Rebecca Maye, Vicksburg; Charlotte Haire, Bruce; Patricia Jenkins, Pittsboro; Jeanette Wilkerson, Mantee; Annettte Haire, Water Valley, and Liza Lowi Moore, Bruce; father- in-law, Monroe and Geneva Galloway; mother-in-law, Sara and Jimmy Griffin, Bruce. She was predeceased by son, Benjamin Galloway  Jr., and grandparents, Homes and Clara Martin and William and Mattie Haire.

Her uneral service will be today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Vardaman with Bro. Johnny Davidson officiating. Interment will be in Rocky Mount Cemetery in Pittsboro. Pallbearers will be Perry Bryant, Larry Harden, Cody Jenkins, Jamie Jenkins, Zack Maye, Dillon Wilkerson, Matthew Jenkins and Robert Jenkins.

Darren Collins

Darren Leon Collins, 48, of Deatsville, Al. and formerly of Bruce, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017. He was born September 19, 1968 in Oxford. He was a graduate of Calhoun Academy Class of 1986 and was a member of West Heights Baptist Church. In earlier years he attended Mississippi State University, and later attended Bolivar Flight and Aviation School, earning his commercial agriculture pilot’s license. He later went to work as a regional compliance manager for Diversified Crop Insurance.

He will be sadly missed by his loving parents, Larry (Mam) Collins, Bruce, and Pat Anglin (Jimmy) Swink, Wetumpka, Al.; his wife, Carla Diane Rutledge Collins; step-sons, Ryan Russell and Brandon Marchand, Brandon, Fl.; brother, Jarred Collins; nephew, Conner Collins, Tupelo; step-sisters, Ashley (Cody) Swink Fincher, Dallas, Tx.; Stephanie (Sean) Key, Wetumpka, Al., and nieces and nephews, Kaley, Lilly, Kade and John Ross Key.

Darren was predeceased by his son, Bennett Chase Collins, and grandparents, Carl Collins, Erma Jewel Collins, Vannie Anglin and Jimmy Anglin.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. His funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Hamilton and Bro. Darrell Logan officiating. Burial will be in Bruce Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Collins, Cody Fincher, Sam Hamblin, Patrick Heath, Vinnie Pacetti, Donald Pendergrast, Josh Stegall and Chad Stewart. Wilma June Ivy, 65, of Bruce, died Thursday, Apr. 6, 2017, in Pontotoc County. Born  January 24, 1952 in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of Luther L. and Viola Irene Haye Loften. She was the widow of the late Larry Leon Ivy and Odis Boyle. She was a loving homesitter and healthcare giver.

Surviving are sons, William Hyman (Jessica) Ivy, Houston, and Larry Louis (Crystal) Ivy, Pontotoc; sisters, Linda Willaby, Bruce,  and Lois White, New York, NY; grandchildren, Briana Ivy, Jynna Andrews, Gaston Ivy, Jaeca Ivy, Drake Ivy, Makayla Poynor, Alexander Ivy, Caiden Ivy, Victoria O’Barr, and great grandchildren, Kaison Denton, Klaire Tyler, and Christopher Ivy.

Her funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Bruce with Bro. Mike Smithey officiating, prior to interment there. Pallbearers will be Anton Andrews, Alex Ivy, Caiden Ivy, Drake Ivy, Gaston Ivy, Larry Louis Ivy and William Hyman Ivy.

Vida Weir

Vida Mae Weir died Friday, April  7, 2017  at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness.  She was born on April 6, 1938 in Bruce.  She was a graduate of Bruce High School, and a member of First Baptist Church of Bruce. She owned and operated Vida Fluff’s Beauty Salon. 

She was a devoted mother to her only son, Joe T. (Joey) Grist II (KC), of Tupelo, who she spent a lifetime spoiling rotten!  She was also the proud grandmother to two grandsons, JT and Jimmie Grist, of Tupelo, who she also spoiled as long as she could.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Oma Mae Ward of Bruce; her brothers, QT Ward of Grenada, Leon Ward (Ann) of Bartlett, TN, Dean Ward of Grenada, and James Lonnie Ward (Pauline) of Belverde, Tx.; one sister, Levy Mae Naron (CL) of Vardaman; she is survived by one sister, Erma Faye Alford (Curtis – deceased) of El Reno, Ok. and one brother, Johnny (Kay) Ward of Grenada.  

Visitation will be Saturday, April 8 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce.  

Services will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 9 also at Parker Memorial with burial to follow.

Pallbearers will be Mike Jones, Mark Ferguson, Bobby Gordon Brown, Mike Winter, Mark Taylor and Butch Ruth.  Honorary pallbearers, are her grandsons JT and Jimmie.

Jane Goodman Peeples,70, died Sunday, April 9, 2017, at her home in Water Valley. She was born in Calhoun City to Milburn and Mary Emojean Goodman. She was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of O’Tuckalofa Baptist Church.Her funeral service will be Tuesday, Apr. 11 at 2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dan Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Creek Cemetery in Banner. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.  She was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Jo Addington and Melba Williams. She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Ronald Harville, 60, of Big Creek, died  Tuesday, Apr. 11, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born August 2, 1956 in Jackson, he was the son of Herbert  and Dorothy McCormick Harville. He was the husband of Brenda Rogers  Harville. He was a national sales manager for Med Lift. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching Ole Miss sports, was a member of Duncan Hill Baptist Church and attended Shiloh Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife Brenda Rogers Harville, Big Creek; sons, Colton Harville, Myrtle, and Rod Wells, Big Creek; daughter, Twila Harville, Cordova, TN; four grandchildren, Miriam Wells, Aynzley Riddle, Jordon Wells, Braves Wells.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church with  Bro. Mark Longino and Bro. Joe Russell officiating. Interment will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Big Creek. Pallbearers will be Bill Bailey, Kerry Crow, Craig McCormick, Gary McCormick, John McCormick, Michael McCormick, Perry McCormick and Scotty McCormick.

Gordon Logan

William Gordon Logan, 90, went to his heavenly home Wednesday, Apr. 12, 2017, at Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford. Born November 16, 1926, he was the son of Harvey and  Daisey Coleman Logan. He was retired from Graeber Bros. Propane Gas, where he was district manager. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, WWII Victory medal, and Honorable Service Pin. He was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for over 50 years. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the American Legion.

A funeral service honoring his life will be Saturday, Apr. 15, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Pryor Funeral Home. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Ervin Wright. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Ben Logan, Bronson Logan, Jason Logan, Jeremy Harville, Chip Cole, and Shane Cook.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Lee Logan, Calhoun City; son, William G. “Bill” (Pam) Logan  Jr., Calhoun City; step-sons, Joe Cook, Calhoun City, and Steve (Peggy) Logan, Clarksdale; daughter, Rosanne (Davy) Schwalenberg, Winchester, VA;  step-daughter, Jeannie (Mike) Machtinger, Calhoun, GA; brothers, Dean (Minnie) Logan, Larry (Barbara) Logan, and Jerry (Joy) Logan, all of Grenada; sister, Yvonne (Robert) Hitt, Eupora; four grandchildren, Bronson Logan, Cobie Logan Box, Leslie Schwalenberg Machtinger, Deanna Schwalenberg. nine step-grandchildren, Shane Cook, Casey Cook, Chad Cook, Shannon Cook, Tyler McTire, Angela Brooks, LeAnn Hill, Jamie Vega; Chip Cole; three great-grandchildren  and 13 step great-grandchildren.

David Stewart

David Henry Stewart, Sr., 94, died Saturday, April 1, 2017, at his residence in Louisville, Ms. with family members present.  He was born March 4, 1923, in Derma.  He moved to Louisville in 1963 as partner with Eugene Robinson (Robinson Insurance Agency).  He was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years and served in the US Air Force during WWII.Funeral services were  April 3, 2017, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rich Malone officiating. Interment was at Oak Springs Cemetery, approximately four miles northeast of Calhoun City.

He graduated from Houston Mississippi High School in 1941, attended Ole Miss and graduated with a B.S. degree from Mississippi State in 1948.  He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.  He operated an All Jersey Dairy Farm near Collins.  He owned a service station in McComb.  He worked for the Home Insurance Company in Jackson before moving to Louisville in 1963.  He participated in numerous Christian Medical Mission trips and also taught English as a Second Language after retirement in the countries of Honduras, China, Romania and Ukraine.  He was an avid gardener, coon hunter with Black & Tan hounds, lay preacher and deacon.

He is survived by his wife of over 69 years, Marzelle Nickels Stewart, Louisville; three children, David Stewart, Jr; Dale Stewart, Susie (Ken) Stewart, all of Louisville; five grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Stewart, Dulcie Stewart (Brandon) Cherry, also of Louisville; Matt Stewart, Starkville; Stephanie (Mark) Covington, Noxapater; Kelsey Stewart, Starkville, and three great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Cherry, Cody Stewart, Louisville, and Blake Covington, Noxapater, and his younger brother, Robert Stewart, Vardaman.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Archie and Sybil Maude Rhodes Stewart, Derma; one sister, Catherine Stewart Mitchell, Lexington, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Terry and Maggie Rose Cherry.

Pallbearers were Ken Stewart, Matt Stewart, Jason Stewart, Mark Covington, Cody Stewart and Brandon Cherry.  Honorary pallbearers were  members of the Monday Prayer Breakfast group from Poplar Flat Baptist Church.

Lacey Lynn Loupe, 33, a native of Lockport, La., passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 in Boyds, Md. She was born September 26, 1983. Lacey is survived by her sister, Tiffany Dauzat (Jonathan) Fugett; nephews, Ethan  and Evan Edmondson, and Grant Fugett; maternal grandfather, Alance J. LeBoeuf; service dog/canine companion, Dodger, and numerous other family members.

A memorial service was held at Falgout Funeral Home in Lockport, La., April 10,  and a private graveside service was held April 11 at Holy Savior Cemetery in Lockport.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Barry J. Loupe and Tinarose LeBoeuf Loupe; brother, Shaun Loupe; paternal grandparents, Percy and Marion Loupe and maternal grandmother, Celestine Dominique LeBoeuf.

Mabel Collins

Mabel Lorette Collins, 95, died Tuesday, Apr. 18, 2017, at Rosewood Assisted Living in Belden. Born July 13, 1921 in Calhoun City,  she was the daughter of Rufus A. and  Jennie Roberson Harville. She was the wife of the late L.D. Collins. She was a retired cosmetologist who owned and operated Merle Norman Studio in Bruce. She was a member of Bruce First Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Albert  L. (Martha) Collins, Tupelo; Benny D. (Barbara) Collins,  Pittsboro, and Fred W. Collins, Guntown; five grandchildren, Buddy Collins, Cindy Collins, Dr. Joby Collins, Dawn Ruth, Carlie Morgan; 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny and Robert Harville; sister, Blanche Bryant, and granddaughters, Jennifer Collins and Dayna Norman.

Her funeral service is today, Wednesday,  at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Darrell Logan officiating. Interment will be in Duncan Hill Cemetery in Derma. Pallbearers will be Buddy Collins, Dr. Joby Collins, Jeremy Collins, Jeremy Moore, Danny Joe Norman, Scott Norman, Linzy Patterson, and Jeff Ruth.

The family will receive friends from noon until time of the funeral service Wednesday,  at the funeral home.

Ron Gordon

Ronald Barrett Gordon, 68, of Memphis,  died Monday, April 17, 2017, at VA. Medical Center in Memphis. Born February 4, 1949 in Chicago, he was the son of William Barrett “Bill”  and Lorene Carter Gordon.

He was an actor and had been performing on area stages for nearly 30 years. He also had a part in the Judd Nelson movie “Making The Grade.” He served stints as technical director at Germantown Community Theatre and Southwest Tennessee Community College. He was a carpenter and set designer, and he served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of AM Revolution.

Surviving are daughter, Brandi (John) Bray, Vardaman; sisters, Linda Bradshaw, Bartlett, TN; Charlotte King, Southern Pines, NC; Deborah (Eddie) Gross, Bartlett, TN and Judy (John) Petty, Millington, TN. He was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Camille Byrd.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce.

His funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Gephart and Bro. Benny Hill officiating. Interment will be in Pittsboro Cemetery  with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Gene Elliott, William Henry, Garrett Howse, Jim Peckham, and Clayton Perkins.

Billy Frank Goodwin

Billy Frank Goodwin, 46, of Calhoun City, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Born December 21, 1970, he was the son of Robert Van Goodwin and Lucille Nichols Melton. Retired from the construction business, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He would try and do things for all the kids when he was able. His favorite place to be was on the creek bank fishing with his nephew, Jeremy Carter, and friends. He loved to roll the windows down and ride and listen to music, or take the kids fishing and swimming. Watching his son, Erik, and nephew, Jesse, play football was also a favorite of his. A very loving and caring young man, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A funeral service honoring his life will be Friday, April 21 at 2 p.m. at Pryor Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Bro. David Martin and Bro. John Warren. Burial will follow at Crossroads Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Charles White, Brady Kirby, Joe Hadden, Jesse Nabors, Eric Hoskins, and Todd Mckee. Honorary pallbearers are Erik Goodwin and Jeff Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Angie Mechelle Langley Goodwin; daughter, Kayla Marie Goodwin, Calhoun City; son, Erik Tyler Goodwin, Calhoun City; sister, Charlotte Diane (Terry) McKinney; brothers, Robert Eugene (Jennifer) Goodwin, and Dewayne (Teresa) Carter, both of Calhoun City;  grandchildren, Rhylan Jamal Goodwin and Jaden Demarion Goodwin; special sister friend, Joy Jackson, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Van Goodwin; grandparents, Alford Clyde and Mildred Earlene Nichols, Elmer Gladys and Etta Marie Goodwin.

There will be a benefit for Billy at a later date to help with funeral expenses.
