David Sanders

David Ray Sanders, 52, died Monday, Mar. 4, 2019 in Starkville.

A memorial service will be March 23 at 11 a.m. at Sarepta Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Smith officiating.

Survivors include sisters, Lisa (Tommy) Mills, Bruce; Sheron and Tammy Sanders, Pittsboro; Gina Huffman, Calhoun City; brother, Patrick Sanders, Bruce; daughter, Summer Nicoles Sanders, and grandchildren, Bentley and Gracelynn Shields. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Ray Sanders and Ruby Kay Remero, and grandparents, Eva Sanders, Jessie Sanders, Beatrice Cleveland and Rube Cleveland.

Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City is in charge of arrangements. 


Linda Anglin

Linda McCluney Anglin, 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Mar. 6, 2019. She is survived by her husband, Joe V. Anglin, Sr.; sons, Van (Tonda), Dent (Pam), and George; daughter, Cheri Anglin;   grandchildren, Ellen Anglin, Joe Van Anglin III, Michelle Taylor (Boomer), Dylan Anglin, Karley Ditto (Chandler), Adriane Anglin, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Emily Kate Anglin.

Memorial gifts can be made in her honor to Millsaps College, 1701 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39210 (attn. Nola Gibson).

She was born April 20, 1929, to Denton and Louise Davis McCluney and grew up in Houston. She graduated from Houston High School as valedictorian.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude at Millsaps College with a BA in Sociology in 1951, and was honored for having the highest four-year average in social sciences.

She married Joe Van Anglin in 1952 and taught for 39 years.

In 1970 she earned a Master of Education degree from Mississippi College. In 1974, she earned her Education Specialist degree from Mississippi State University.

She was instrumental in the 1979 founding of Mississippi Professional Educators (MPE), an independent organization for Mississippi educators. She served as the first president of the organization (1979-1982).

She was an active member of Briarwood United Methodist Church for 59 years.

Her services were March 9 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland.

Luther Huguley

Earnest Luther Huguley, 76, passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford on March 16, 2019. Born December 1, 1942 in Calhoun County, he was the son of  Wyle Howard and  Sally Hendon Huguley. He was of Baptist faith, and retired after many years as a self-employed painter. He  loved to sing and play guitar, and also loved fishing and being outdoors, but his favorite pastime was hanging out with friends and shooting pool. He was part of a large family, one of eight children, and he now rejoins his brothers in Heaven. His family will miss him dearly, but they will cherish his memory forever in their hearts.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be Tuesday, Mar. 19 at 1 p.m. at Pryor Funeral Home. There will be a visitation from  noon until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Chris Conlee will be officiating, and interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Slate Springs.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Hodges, Johnathon Hodges, Mark Vote, Wayne Hodges, Jimmy Huguley and David Hodges. 

 He leaves his sons, William Howard “Bill” Huguley, Como, and Brandon Harwell, Water Valley; step-daughter, Deedra Anthony, Como; sisters, Carrie Hodges and Alice Hodges, both of Eupora; Betty Lou Sims, Bartlett, TN, Dorothy Hughes, Big Creek, and Peggy O’Neal, Grenada; step grandchildren, Brittany Flanders and Laurie Tassin; and step great-grandchild, Caleb Flanders. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James and Ronnie Huguley.

Hortense Bryant

Mary Hortense Hood Bryant, 92, passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Calhoun City March 11, 2019. Born May 7, 1926 in Big Creek, she was the daughter of Robert Cecil and Mary Jones Burke. She was a retired school teacher and member of Old Town Baptist Church. She graduated from Big Creek High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi while working at Kellwood Co. in Calhoun City.

In 1977, she became the third grade teacher at Calhoun Academy, and retired from there after nearly 20 years. She touched the lives of so many during her lifetime, and  is still cherished and loved by the many students she taught. She enjoyed working in her flower garden or painting. She loved decorating rocks with her beautiful artwork. She also read the Bible faithfully and loved attending church services. Her faith, family, and friends meant the most to her, and she will be remembered always for her caring heart and sweet soul. 

A funeral service celebrating her life was Saturday at Pryor Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Madison, Bro. Fred Hartley, and Bro. Charlie Fitz officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Frank Burke, Guy Burke Hendrix, Eddie Hood, David Magness, Jr., Benji Vance, and Tanner Vance. Honorary pallbearers were John Clayton, Steve Bryant and Robert Kahler. 

She leaves her husband, Hollis Vaughn Bryant; sons, Robert Oliver Hood, Calhoun City, William Lee (Rebecca) Hood, Oxford, and John Burke Hood, Calhoun City; daughter, Betsy Diane (Robert) Kahler, Saratoga, NY; brother, Howard Wayne (Betty June) Burke, Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Fantasy (Benji) Vance, Grenada; Blake Hood, Oxford; Bailey (John) Clayton, Dallas, TX;  Bryce and Claire Kahler, Saratoga, NY, and  great-grandchildren, Tanner, Grace, Faith, Sibley and Linus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Rev. Oliver Bryant Hood; brothers, Robert and Travis Burke; and sister, Maggie Burke.

Mary Tunnell

Mary Elizabeth Tunnell, 94, passed away  March 12, 2019, at her residence in Calhoun City.

Her funeral service was Friday at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Interment was at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens with Bro. David Westmoreland  officiating.

She was a faithful member of Carriage Hills Baptist Church for around 20 years. She enjoyed many past times. She loved to go fishing, and play Bingo. When not fishing or out with friends, one could find her spending time with her grandchildren. She loved her family more than anything in the world.

She is survived by her children, Quay Wolfe and William (Karen) Chambers; grandchildren, Bill Wolfe, William (Sherrie) Chambers, Jr., Chris (Angie) Chambers, Jeff Chambers, and Angel Chambers; great-grandchildren, Clint Wolfe, Hunter Chambers, Kevin Chambers, Jessica Chambers, Matt Chambers, Haden and Drake Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ben Chambers, Sr.; second husband, James A Tunnell; son, Ben Chambers, Jr.; parents, Dave and Alice Ross; 11 siblings; granddaughter, Pamela Q. Wolfe; and great-grandson, Will Gordon Wolfe.

Randall Jefferys

James Randall Jefferys of Banner passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Born on August 5, 1956 to James Jefferys and Louise Hamblet Jefferys in Jackson, he was 62.

A graduate of Mississippi State University, he had a career as a banker and mortgage broker after starting out serving as a Baptist Youth Minister. Known as someone with a great sense of humor, he was also a fan of the football and baseball teams of Mississippi State.He also enjoyed camping and fishing.

He leaves behind his wife Patricia Baker Jefferys of Banner; son James Garrett Jefferys of Austin, Tx.; daughter Brittany Hughes of Alabaster, Al.; brothers Brad Jefferys of Coffeeville and John Mark Jefferys of Tupelo, and grandchild Asher Jefferys of Alabaster, Al.He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

He will be laid to rest Wednesday, Mar. 20 at 3 pm in New Hope Cemetery in Coffeeville. Roy McDowell will lead the graveside services . The family will receive friends at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce one hour prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Jeffreys, Ben Jeffreys, Chris Jeffreys, Sean Jefferys, Patrick McGonagill, Jeremy Parker, Andrew Snellings and Keith Snellings.

 

Grace Shoaf

Grace Lovelace Shoaf, 78, of Olive Branch, passed away March 14, 2019 at Methodist Olive Branch Hospital.

She is survived by her son, Charles C. Shoaf IV (Stacy) of Olive Branch; sisters, Jo Ann Lovelace Nicholas, Natchitoches, LA and Georgia Lovelace Day (Ralph) of Madison; brothers, Winford Lovelace (Loretta) of Tustin, MI and Bill T. Lovelace (Laura) of Olive Branch; grandchildren, Georgia Grace Morehead and Sydney Renee Shoaf and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by daughter, Tiffany Shoaf Morehead; mother, Winona Blissard Lovelace; father, Robert N. Lovelace; sisters, Louise Lovelace Barnett and Rhogena Lovelace Stewart and brother, Harley C. Lovelace. She was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church.

Memorials may be sent to Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como, St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Southaven  or the American Cancer Society. Services were held Monday at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.

Rosanne Harmon

Rosanne Morgan Harmon, 94, of Vardaman passed away Thursday, Mar. 21, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 13, 1925 to Julian Earl Morgan, Sr. and Margaret Inmon Morgan in Vardaman.

After attending Blue Mountain College, she eventually began a career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 25 years service as a postal clerk. An active member of Midway Baptist Church, she devoted her time and energy to the church ministry and church family programs. A homemaker at heart, she had a passion for making her mark on her home with yard work, decorating, or simply rearranging furniture to make a comfortable space for her family. Active in many ways with family and friends, she will be missed by all.

She leaves son, John Michael (Amy) Harmon, Vardaman; daughters, Rosemarie (Jerry) Poyner, Grenada, and Julia (Donald) Scott, Olive Branch; brothers, Julian E. (Ann) Morgan, Jr., Memphis; Sam (Nancy) Morgan, Memphis, and R. E. (Barbara) Morgan, Vicksburg; sisters, Carolyn Mobley, Paris, TN; Jane Hayes, Memphis, and Elizabeth Browning, Masonic Home, KY; grandchildren, Brian (Terry) Poyner, Lisa Sisson, Stacy Neal, Michelle (Greg) Johnson, Jonathon and Hunter Harmon, and eight great-grandchildren.

There will be an evening visitation Saturday, Mar. 23 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardaman from 6-8 pm. Her funeral service  will be Sunday at Midway Baptist Church at 2 pm. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Bro. Al Gaspard and Dr. Gary Roberson will lead services. She will be laid to eternal rest in Midway Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hunter Harmon, Jonathon Harmon, Greg Johnston, Gregory Johnston, Harrison Johnston, Bart Neal, Brian Poyner and Josh Poyner.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husban, John Oren Harmon; and sister, Charlotte Morgan.


Brandon McKibben

Brandon Jay McKibben passed away suddenly at his home in Brandon March 21, 2019. Born on May 18, 1973 to Hiram and Ann Lee Mckibben in Oxford, he was 45.

A member of Bruce High School’s graduating class of 1991, he relocated to the Brandon area where he was employed at the Nissan Plant in Canton. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, shooting his guns, and grilling for his family and friends. An animal lover, he had a special friendship with his  cats. Although his time with his family and friends was too short, they know he was called home to a better place.

He leaves his mother, Ann Lee McKibben and father, Hiram McKibben, Bruce; sister, Misty (Bob) Dye, Vardaman; very special niece, Saylor Grace Dye, and a very special friend, Lorrie Alexander, Brandon.

His funeral service was Saturday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Bro Darrell Logan and Bro. Bobby Cobb officiating. He was laid to rest in Memory Memorial Garden. Pallbearers were Brian Hughes, Chad Lee, Tim Earl McCormick, Tony McCormick, Tim Swords, Sammy Turner, Tracy Turner and Will Weldon. Barry Lee, Bucky Lee, Jeff Lee, Lance Lee, Landon Lee, Chase Overstreet, Gray Overstreet, and Brandon’s friends at the Nissan Plant served as honorary pPallbearers.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Elton and Myrtle Lee, and paternal grandparents, H.W. and Catherine McKibben.

Dorothy Edwards

Dorothy Jean Edwards, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Dallas, TX Tuesday, March 19, 2019.Born May 27, 1931 in Slate Springs, she was the daughter of the late Oris L. Edwards and the late Elthia Davis Edwards. She was a graduate of Slate Springs High School, and was of Baptist faith. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Mississippi College in Jackson. From there she attended the Baptist Seminary in New Orleans. She served the First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge for several years as secretary. She left there and worked at LSU as Administrative Secretary for the BSU Director. While there, she would often have Bible study in her home for the BSU students. She was very involved with her students at LSU, and remained in contact with many of them until recently. After moving to Dallas, TX, she served as secretary for the University of Texas under the Professor of the Ophthalmologist Department. Throughout her life she was an avid reader. She also enjoyed cooking for just about anybody, and she also spent a great deal of time outdoors because she absolutely loved taking long walks. Dorothy touched the lives of many as she was a caring, giving, and wonderful lady. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends, but her memory will live on in their hearts. 

Her funeral service was Sunday at Pryor Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Vance officiating. Interment was at Bethany Cemetery in Slate Springs.

Serving as pallbearers were Mike Edwards, Mark Edwards, Mitchell Edwards, Hunter Harris, Randy Dye, and Matt Munsen. 

She leaves behind her sister, Maggie Jo (Kenneth) Magness of Batesville, MS; her brothers, Davis (Betty) Edwards of Calhoun City, and Melvin (Brenda) Edwards of Pollack, LA; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert, and a nephew, Phillip Magness.

Martha Horton

Martha Ella Gunn Horton of Vardaman died March 15, 2019.She was born July 10, 1948 to Willie Gunn and Q’Ella Shaw.

Known as ‘Mot’, she joined Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Vardaman at an early age. She attended South Calhoun School. She was a homemaker and devoted mother of nine children. She loved to bake cakes and shared her home baked items and goods with family and friends in the community. She was given the nickname, “The Cake Lady.”

Her survivors include eight children, James A. Horton, Benny E. Horton Jr., Tonya R. Smith, Benita T. White, Gregory Horton, all of Varmdan; Christopher Horton, Calhoun City; Tammy Moore, Columbus; Leslie White, Toledo, Oh.; 14 grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; brother, Lee Gunn, Vardaman, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by husband, Benny Horton Sr.; son, Thomas Horton; parents, and brother, Hugh Ellis Crawford.

Her funeral service was March 20 at Shady Grove MB Church in Vardaman with Rev. Gerard Valliant officiaiting. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were David Ewing, Richard Kimble, Bobby Moore, Terry Ware, Jimmy Dale Hill and Brandon Atkinson. Skeeter Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bill Snellings

Billy Edward Snellings, 81 of Bruce, passed away suddenly Monday, Mar. 25, 2019. Born January 17, 1938 in Bruce, he was the son of Charlie and Hazel Box Snellings.

Bill was the owner of Snellings Service Station for 58 years. He enjoyed fixing up antique Ford trucks and Broncos. He also loved mowing the yard. He was a member of Bruce First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ann Simpson Snellings; son, Kevin Snellings, and brother, John R. (Annie Jean) Snellings, all of Bruce. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Snellings.

The family will receive friends today, Wednesday from noon until time of his funeral service at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce.

Bro. David Haggerty, Bro. Darrell Logan and Bro. Joel Worley will officiate the service, and interment will be in Memory Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Box, Steve Box, Benny Collins, Jim Collins, Miles Jeffery, Sonny Keeton, Andrew Snellings and Keith Snellings.

Bo Breland

Elton Brooks “Bo” Breland, 87, of Grenada, passed away March 25, 2019 at his residence. He was born February 10, 1932 in Webb to Elton Nicolean and Mary Barrentine Breland. Bo graduated from Webb-Swan Lake High School in 1950, which was the school’s last graduating class.  An excellent athlete, he played high school baseball, went on to play Semi-Pro Baseball and later enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team. He faithfully served our country in the US Navy where he was a jet mechanic. After working over 30 years at South Central Bell, he retired and played golf as much as time allowed. He was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Grenada.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 at First United Methodist Church in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until service time  at the church. 

Survivors include his wife, Joan Breland; daughters, Beckie Carlson (Mitch)  Fairhope, AL and Lisa Saxton (Lackey)  Banner; son, Elton “Blue” Breland, Jr., Gore Springs; brother, Charles Breland (Debbie) Grenada; grandchildren, Will Erickson, Andy Saxton, Brooks Breland, Ann Latham Pugh (Joe), Aly Smith (Jordan), Justin Breland (Audrey); nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Janet Smith and Carolyn O’Neal; and brother, Jerry Breland.

Pallbearers will be Will Erickson, Andy Saxton, Brooks Breland, Justin Breland, Jordan Smith and William Erickson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Pugh, El Hugh Ferguson, Billy Joe Waldrup, Dynamite Kirk, Herman Duke, Paul Barton, Kenny Tierce, Melvin Noland, Chuck Thomas, Ed Hill, George Hightower, Joe Monteith, Will Ferguson, Lee Erickson, David Hammons, Jerry Dantone, Frank George, Bobby Heath, Tommy Suckow, Bill West and Billy Littrell.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church-Grenada or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mary Jennings

Mary Louise Doss Jennings, affectionately known as “Cow,” was born Feb. 22, 1936 to Henry and Creasie Doss in Big Creek. She departed this life to live eternally with the Lord March 12, 2019.

She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Chapel Hill CME Church in Big Creek. She later joined Goff Chapel COG (later known as Daniel Temple COG) in Derma under the leadership of the late Bishop C.C. Daniel. She served in many capacities in the church while under the leadership of the present pastor, Bishop W.D. Hill. She was 1st Candidate for Salvation; Chapter Member; 1st Sunday School Superintendent; 1st Usher Board President; Vice President of the Lady Ministry and Adult Sunday School Teacher.

She was employed at Kellwood Company as a seamstress for over 30 years.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Robert Clay Jennings on May 27, 1965 and to  this union no children were born.

She leaves to cherish: god-daughters: Nezzie (Jody) Hayes, Calhoun City, and Mollie Hatchett, Pittsboro; sisters: Lillie Moore, Memphis; Ruby Walker, Calhoun City; Earnestine Williams, Tupelo; Izora Westmoreland, Sadie Doss, Monette Jackson, all of Derma; brothers: A.B. Doss, Memphis and Howard Doss, Derma. 

Although she did not have any children of her own, she was a mother to Lucretia Monger, Marvin J. Doss and Mavis McCaster, all of Calhoun City; sister in Christ: Sis. Addie Washington; special godson in Christ: Min. James Dean and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mary Alice Sledge

Mary Alice Terry Sledge, 98, of Calhoun City passed from this life  March 29, 2019 at Baptist-Calhoun Health Services in Calhoun City. She  was born in Big Creek July 23, 1920  to Robert Richmon Terry and Lubie Estell Carter.

She attended Wood Jr. College and furthered her education at Mississippi University for Women where she obtained a degree in education. She molded young minds for many years as a school teacher.  A member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church she placed her faith in Jesus Christ. She not only enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation from a pond where she could be found fishing, but also from the delicate beauty of a garden. When she was not enjoying the outdoors or admiring her grandchildren you could find her turning the crisp pages of a book.

She leaves her husband, Tommie Gwin Sledge, Calhoun City; daughter Carolyn (Charles) Smith, Collierville, Tn.; son Terry (Zhanna) Sledge, Birmingham, A.;  brother Charles Terry, Big Creek; five grandchildren,  Chris Smith, Jenifer Smith, Johnathan Sledge, Tommy Sledge, and Valarie Waskey. She was preceded in death by infant son Lester Sledge; sisters Leavy Stone, Margaret Boland, Jimmie Shenep, Johnnie Stribling, and Kate Webb.  Two Brothers Thadeous Terry, and Edward Terry.

The family will receive friends Monday from 1-2 with a celebration of her life  at 2 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Thomas Murphy will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brian Allen, Robert Boland, Johnathan Sledge, Tommy Sledge, William Terry and Chris Smith. She will be laid to rest at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

Marjorie Ann Riddle Smith, 88, died March 28, 2019, at Bruce Community Living Center. Her funeral service was Sunday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Darrell Logan officiatiating, assisted by Bro. Robert Earl Alexander. Lee Hubbard delivered the eulogy. Pallbearers were Danny Baker, Dennis Baker, Edwin Baker, Randy Baker, Ted Camp, Thomas A. Camp, Danny Kelly and Gary Ledbetter.

She was born in Prescott, Ar., the only child of Herman Ord Riddle, originally from Abingdon, Va., and Edith Marie Erwin Riddle of Hope, Ar.  She was one of the first residents of Bruce and enjoyed sharing her childhood memories of growing up there. She graduated from Bruce High School in May of 1948, and married Thomas Gale Smith of Banner in June of 1948. She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas, and son, Tommy.

After working for Glenn Slacks Garment Company, she was employed for many years at Borg-Warner in Water Valley, retiring in 2005. She grew up attending Bruce First United Methodist Church and later became a member of Banner Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children Susie (Jim) Kopf, Ridgeland; George (Jo Ann) Smith, Counce, Tn., and John (Nancy) Smith, Vicksburg; grandchildren, Loren Kopf (Clay) Beason, Searcy, Ar.; Leah Smith (Justin) Patterson, Sumrall, and Beth Smith (Logan) Walker, Saltillo; and great-granddaughters  Ann-Clayton Beason, Addi Kate, Swayze and Ainsley Patterson and Annady Rylan, and Reagan Walker.

Fred Harold Murphree

Fred Harold Murphree, 82, passed away March 31, 2019 at Baptist Calhoun Nursing Home after a long illness.His brother, Dewey Murphree, sister Dorothy Johnson and niece Betty Watson were at his bedside. 

He was born December 3, 1936, the son of Edgar and Virgie Adams Murphree. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Murphree.

He spent his earlier childhood with his sister in Memphis. He worked for Western Union and Memphis Blue Print Co., and helped print out the plans of St. Jude Hospital. He enlisted in the Air Force and after he returned to Bruce, he became a full time carpenter. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

He leaves a sister, Dorothy Johnson, Memphis; brother, Dewey Murphree and sister-in-law, Garneita Murphree of Bruce;  nieces, Bobbie Bingham, Houston, Tx.; Betty Watson, Olive Branch;  Kay McElhaney, Senatobia; nephew Kenny Murphree, Mountainview, Ar.; many nieces and nephews; lots of friends in Bruce and the coffee shop.

Visitation will be Tuesday held from noon  until time of the service at 2 p.m at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. Bro. Robert Earl Alexander will be officiating, and burial will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Drennon Adams, Zack Buchanan, Jeff Burks, Larry Collins, William Smithson and Austin Whitley.

Patty Ledbetter

Patty Donette Ledbetter 62, left for her eternal home as the result of a motor vehicle accident Saturday, Apr. 6, 2019.  She was born November 14, 1956 in Calhoun City to Thomas Mack  and Dorothy Cowsert Ledbetter.

She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was 1974 graduate of Bruce High School and furthered her education at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Many years ago she moved to Washington,D.C. where she obtained employment with the Federal Bureau of Investigation Finger Print Division. Upon returning to Bruce she worked at Piggly Wiggly until her retirement in November 2018. She had a deep love for the salty waters and white sands of the Gulf Coast, where she could be found floating on the breeze in a sailboat or participating in a multitude of water sports.

She leaves behind a sister, Frieda (Bill) Woodcock, Long Beach; brothers; Phillip (Sherrie) Ledbetter and Scott (Susan) Ledbetter, both of Bruce; three very special nieces; Amelia (Travis) Sorensen, Lakyn (Eric) Parker   and Rebecka (Dylan) Seiler, and very special  nephew Austin (Misty) Ledbetter.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Mack and Dorothy Cowsert Ledbetter; nephew, Justin Ledbetter; maternal grandparents, Luther and Maudie Cowsert, and paternal grandparents, Jake and Winne Ledbetter.

The family will receive friends April 8 from 5-8 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce. In addition, to the visitation a celebration of her life will be April 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Eric Payne will officiate, with burial following the service at Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Allen Truman, Gary Ledbetter, James Flippo, Joe Cowsert, Mike Cowsert and Rodney Mann.

Addie Ainsworth

Addie Lee Ainsworth, 81 passed this earthly life Friday, April 5, 2019 at Baptist Calhoun Health Service after a brief illness. She was born August 27, 1937 to Lee Roy Kelley and Clara Kimbrell Kelley. She was a member of Drivers Flat Baptist Church.  She was a homemaker and a former bookkeeper for H. L. Green’s in Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Joe Ainsworth; sisters, Mary Ramshur and Helen Kelley; brothers, Boyd Kelley and Floyd Kelley.

She is survived by sister, Ramona (Bobby) Wells, Bruce; brother, Rickey (Chung Hee) Kelley, Columbia, SC and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service was Sunday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Brucewith Bro. Danny Kelley and Bro. Joe Owens  officiating in the service. Burial was in Memory Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers were Roger Brown, Charlie Huckaby, Randy King, Freddie Martin, Doug Orlando and John Wells. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Kimbrell, Les Morgan, Steve Norwood and Granville Scott.

Judy Elaine Samuell, 60, of Senatobia,  passed away at home Saturday, Apr. 6, 2019. She was born May 6, 1958 in Bruce to Maxine Dodson and Bill McFall. She was a member of Saxon Memorial Nazerene Church.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Apr. 9 at 2 at Southern Funeral Chapel with Bro. Scott Samuell officiating. Burial will follow in Kimmel Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday, Apr. 8 from 5-8 p.m. at Southern Funeral Chapel

She is survived by her husband, Mark Samuell, Houston; daughters, Rhonda (John) Dunn, Senatobia, and Felicia Samuell (Sedric Robertson) of Houston; mother and father, Maxine and Bill McFall, Bentley; sister, Sherry Johns (Gene) Owings, Wren; half-sister, Lisa (Aaron) Conner, Starkville; half-brother, James Kenneth McFall, Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a special friend, Demeka Kilgore, Saltillo.

She was preceded in death by her step-father, Charles Johns; mother and father-in-law, Jerry and Shirley Shopher, and grandparents, Ardell and Mary Dodson and Arthur and Susie Johns.
