Homer Brown

Homer Clayton Brown, 79,  passed away January 3, 2019, at his home in Bruce, following an extended illness. He was born August 18, 1939 in Calhoun County to Lloyd C. and Dessie Mryle Camp Brown.

He was skilled in many areas, especially when the job called for working with his hands. During his life, he mastered the trades as a mechanic and running heavy equipment such dozers, etc. As a lover of God’s creation, he enjoyed the outdoors. Eventually, he became a farmer, working the land and raising cows. He used his skills as a hired hand while working for Calhoun County, District 3, retiring after 29 years of service. Upon retirement, he joined his son Clay and became a logger. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Bruce, serving as a lifetime deacon, in addition to being a faithful choir member for many years. He enjoyed going on mission trips with the Calhoun County Baptist Association. He gave faithfully to the Baptist Children’s Village and Calhoun County Baptist Association Disaster Relief. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Boyce Clayton Brown.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Wilma Joyce Mills Brown, Bruce; daughters, Pamela (Harold) Ward, Bruce; Mitzi (Doug) Orlando, Bruce; son, Lanny Brown, Bruce; brothers, Lathan (Bunnie) Brown, Byram; Bro. Dwight (Donna) Brown, Calhoun City; sister, Judy (Bro. Philip) Caples, Corinth; grandchildren, Colton (Ashley) Ward, Madison; Jeremy (Daraka) Brown, Calhoun City; Corey Ward, Bruce; Bradley (Amber) Andrews, New Albany; Carla (Colen) Walls, Bruce; Andrew Keen, Bruce; great grandchildren Mackenzie Ward, Zachary Ward, Elijah Ward, Conner Brown, Cohen Brown, Canyon Brown, Chelsea Walls, Kaiden Walls, Presley Walls  and Kamden Walls.

His funeral service was Sundayat Parker Memorial  Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joey Hamilton and Bro. Kevin Chrestmanofficiating, and  Bro. Dwight Brown and Bro. Jackie Douglas assisting.

He was laid to rest in Bruce Cemetery. Grandsons Colton Ward, Corey Ward, Jeremy Brown, Bradley Andrews, Jason Barefield and Shawn Snellings served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were D.R. Barefield, Michael Brown, Donald Camp, Charles Chrestman, Lawrence King and Larry Snellings.
