Joseph Carlton Cleveland, 98, of Pittsboro, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at home in Pittsboro. Born June 12, 1918 in Itawamba County, he was the son of Oscar E. and Effie D. Knight Cleveland. He was a member of Skuna Valley Baptist Church, was the retired owner of Pittsboro Service Station, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and watching wrestling.
Surviving are his wife, Beaulah Estelle Gregory Cleveland, Pittsboro; daughter, Judy James, Pittsboro; grandchildren, Joseph Terry Griffin, Bruce; Scott Morris, Pittsboro; Julie Sullivan, Bruce, and Yalonda Tharp, Vardaman; nine great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, L.T., J.C., Ruby and Aussie Cleveland, and sister, Ruthie Sprayberry.
His funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Earl Alexander and Dr. J.R. Eaton officiating. Interment will be in Pittsboro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Griffin, Brandon Morris, Scott Morris, David Shuler, Sam Tutor and Joe Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers are Matt Griffin and Jimmy Morris.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce.
